I just wanted to comment on something that keeps coming up with YGO appers and crit. Now, I don't want this to be perceived as an attack on the voters, because it really honestly isn't, there was a lot of great crit given and people should vote for the reasons they want. However! There is a repeated problem concerning the Abridged series.
Now, I love the Abridged series. I do. It's awesome. However, oftentimes it can feel very difficult to be funny with a YGO character without having people think that you're alluding to the Abridged. Abridged is partly so funny because it does play off the humor inherent in the characters, which is what people play off in camp. But because YGO already has such a famous parody, us doing stuff like that in camp is something we have to be kind of careful with. The same goes for appers.
It also goes sort of in reverse. There are a lot of people who only know of YGO through the Abridged. And this is fine, really, it is! I'm not going to make you read or watch my canon. But it makes voices very hard to judge, because the Abridged voice tends to be a very exaggerated voice. I find the same goes for the YGO dub. The dub changes quite a lot with the characters, so what you end up with is several different character interpretations that all are similar to each other but none are quite the same.
Again, I want to stress that I'm not at all saying that people should not crit the appers (please do, crit is good!) or should have voted differently (seriously, vote the way you feel you should). Or should watch a different version of YGO than the one they have. I really felt like saying this so that it could be something that people could maybe keep in mind when it comes to YGO character voice. I'm not irritated or defensive or anything like that, I just thought it might be helpful especially as I saw a few people mentioning differing versions of characters. YGO Abridged is a parody of the YGO dub. The YGO dub is already quite different from the Japanese, which is already a bit different from the manga (which we take most of the canon from), so by the time the character reaches Abridged, they've already been modified three times over. And that can - understandably - result in some confusion. Which I know we're more than happy to talk about.
I seriously hope this doesn't come off as bitchy. That's really not my intent!
